Top 10 Cities You Should Visit for a Day Trip.
Danville, VA. What better place to start than my own city? Danville is a small city with a lot of personality. Located on the west-central part of the Virginia / North Carolina border, this tiny little river town has a lot to offer. The Dan River flows right through the middle of the city, creating space for our downtown area known as our River District. Danville has some of the best food & beverage options in Southwest Virginia. Two breweries, a number of local restaurants, countless outdoors activities & plenty to do for families & young professionals.
Richmond, VA. My ALL-TIME favorite city. Richmond is absolutely the perfect city — amazing food & craft beverage scene, plenty of outdoor activities, a beautiful river, an incredible art scene & a beautiful college campus that adds to the downtown RVA culture. Richmond has something to offer for everyone.
Roanoke, VA. Roanoke has quickly become one of my favorite cities to visit. Tucked away right in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this little mountain town combines southern charm & nature lover’s heaven. It’s a great place to have a nice hike, grab a meal or a beer & take in the beautiful city.
Winston-Salem, NC. The city of art & innovation lives up to its name. This incredible city offers a rich, diverse culture while also looking to the future. There are plenty of museums, restaurants, bars & other places for entertainment, all within minutes of the beautiful downtown scene.
Lynchburg, VA. Lynchburg offers the best of both worlds — a mountain city & a river city. Lynchburg has been on the upside of redevelopment for a bit now; Lynchburg is an incredibly walkable city with lots of places to shop & dine. Durham, NC. Durham, NC is my all-time favorite Carolina city — urban, artsy & strong down-home roots. Durham is home to many of my favorite restaurants & breweries & also home to the American Tobacco Campus, my top day-trip destination.
Raleigh, NC. Although it’s not quite as gritty & grungy as Durham, this clean-cut capital city (say that five times fast!) sets the bar for metropolitan southern class. Raleigh has some of the coolest architecture
Boone, NC. Often considered a sister city to Asheville, this sleepy little college town is perfect for hikers & those who just want a small town feel to enjoy the view.
Asheville, NC. Commonly known as the hippie capital of the South, Asheville certainly lives up to its name. Asheville is city of art & music & food & culture. Tucked away in the western Carolina mountain range, this city has a lot to offer for hikers, mountain lovers, art lovers & any creative types.
Greenville, SC. Believe it or not, years ago — I HATED Greenville, South Carolina. I thought it was overhyped & nothing to do. Now it’s one of my FAVORITE pitstops & destinations. Greenville has a beautiful river running down the middle of its downtown with restaurants & shops all throughout the area. It’s a fun, playful city with beautiful views & lots of southern charm. A great city for foodies & folks who love the outdoors — a great pit stop if you’re travelling to or through Georgia or South Carolina!
